Incarnating Jesus in the Concrete Jungle

Relevant vs. Shaping

There is a great deal of talk…books…podcast…etc. on being culturally relevant, which in my heart I fully affirm and agree with…how can we reach and redeem cultures, if they do not find us relevant to their lives…

One consideration has plagued me though…there was a time in human history when the church shaped culture…we were often the catalyst for the trends and responses that culture had toward life, world issues, and world views…

The question that so often resurfaces in my mind is” When did the shift occur”?When did we, the church. cease to shape culture and begin to strive for relevance…when did we relinquish our position as God’s ambassador’s, and resident representatives of His creative power and nature?

If He is the AUTHOR of all CREATIVITY, then what is relevant to culture should be defined by the church…shouldn’t it?
